Since the debut of the first ‘Beowulf’ cluster in 1994, HPC has been a race between technologists squeezing as much performance as possible from hardware, and scale economics driving mass-production prices to affordable levels. The first HPC cluster was an artful combination of commodity-grade computers networked together with ethernet and novel software techniques to allow distributed processing, and set the pattern for a generation. While HPC today looks a lot different than it did almost 30 years ago, the purpose of HPC systems is the same – help researchers, scientists and engineers find answers to some of the world’s biggest questions.

At this event we will cover the latest compute offerings from Amazon EC2 like the upcoming Graviton3, and the AMD EPYC 3rd generation based Hpc6a instance which offers the best price performance for compute-intensive, tightly-coupled HPC workloads in Amazon EC2. Tune in to learn about the latest features from AWS’s custom built, high-performance networking interface Elastic Fabric Adapter, and the latest from AWS high-performance storage solution, Amazon FSx for Lustre. Beyond compute, networking and storage, hear from engineers and product managers working on HPC services like ParallelCluster, AWS Batch, NICE DCV, and our new hybrid workflow management feature (i.e. AWS HPC Cloud Connector) available through NICE EnginFrame. Compute, Networking, and Storage (8:30AM – 9:15AM PST)

  • Learn about the latest Amazon EC2 instances, such as the Amazon EC2 Hpc6a which offers up to 65% better price performance over comparable compute-optimized, x86-based EC2 instances. Also learn about AWS designed Graviton processors such as the C6g and C6gn, and the upcoming Graviton3 processors.
  • Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) is AWS’s custom built network interface delivering up to 400 GBPS networking. Learn how the latest features like dual-slot EFA, and features like GPU-direct help scale your workloads to tens of thousands of cores.
  • Amazon FSx for Lustre provides fully managed shared storage with the scalability and performance of the popular Lustre file system. Learn about the latest improvements to Amazon FSx for Lustre and Amazon FSx for OpenZFS built on the AWS Graviton family of processors.

Cluster Management and Batch Processing (9:15AM – 9:30:AM PST)

  • ParallelCluster helps you manage your entire HPC environment, from user permissions, to storage and compute. Learn more about the new flexible ParallelCluster API, improved configuration file formatting, simplified network configuration options and other new features make it easier than ever to manage your HPC environment on AWS.
  • AWS Batch enables developers, scientists, and engineers to easily and efficiently run hundreds of thousands of batch computing jobs on AWS. Learn how the latest features, such as AWS Batch fair-share, can help your organization more efficiently scale batch processing.

Hybrid HPC and Remote Visualization (9:30AM – 10:00AM PST)

  • With EnginFrame, users can access an HPC portal to manage their HPC infrastructure across on-premises and AWS. Join us as we show how with EnginFrame’s easy-to-use interface can help you get started running your HPC workloads in the cloud.
  • With NICE DCV, customers can run graphics-intensive applications remotely on EC2 instances, and stream their user interface to simpler client machines, eliminating the need for expensive dedicated workstations. Learn about the latest release of NICE DCV and how you can save costs by streaming pixels, not data.
